Internship Announcement

Jonny Stax, an entertainment producer in Chicago, announces internship opportunities for the 2010 winter, spring,and/or summer terms.  Interns will be paid a small financial stipend and supported to receive school credit upon successful completion of the program. Interns will be provided a pro-active learning environment, substantial resume-building responsibilities, and networking opportunities in the Chicago entertainment industry.

About the company:

Jonny Stax has been producing The Scooty and JoJo Show (www.scootyjojo.com) in Chicago for more than two years, with cult hits such as CARPENTERS HALLOWEEN, DIVA BRUNCH, and MOLLYWOOD.  This year he is building a production company, JoJo Presents, through which he will develop and produce new works, including new Scooty and JoJo Shows, as well as represent other performance groups and individuals. Interns will have the opportunity to be involved in the foundation-building of a new company with experienced professionals and tested products as well as help shape new, innovative projects and products.  We are looking for individuals with unique skill sets who are pleasant to work with, follow through on commitments they make, are dedicated to excellence, are comfortable with growth and change, and have an interest in entertainment.

About the internship:

This winter’s internship program will be focused on development of new projects, organization development of the company, and identifying ways to use new media outlets to promote the company.  Spring internships will include the above as well as execution of some of the new projects developed in the winter.  Interns will have the opportunity to develop a uniquely tailored program by identifying where their interests intersect with the needs of the company.  Needs of the company currently include:

  • Production management:  With new productions and remounts of past productions coming up in the spring, summer, and fall, our production manager needs assistance in building and maintaining production calendars, facilitating and documenting design and production meetings, researching appropriate venues, managing budgets, identifying talent, and other activities necessary to carry concept to stage.
  • Construction of design elements:  For upcoming projects, designers are building teams of professionals and interns to construct new sets, puppets, costumes, props, and other design elements.
  • Organizational development: The company needs to develop working principles, internal communication systems, personnel handbook, business plan, bookkeeping systems, core staff and auxiliary consultants, and other elements necessary to solidify the infrastructure of the company’s producing capacity.
  • New media integration: The company needs to use new media sources such as video blogging, website development, networking sites, and more to promote their work and develop new audiences.  This includes researching and setting up accounts, uploading footage and material, setting up systems for upkeep, making improvements to the website, and more.

About the prime candidates:

JoJo Presents is interested in working with individuals who are pleasant and committed to excellence.  We do not assume expertise is the defining factor of a successful individual as much as the wisdom to know what one does not know, the tenacity to figure it out, and the ability to communicate new learning to others.  Interns do not have to be students, but could be individuals seeking new learning opportunities.

How to apply:

To apply for an internship, email Anne Wagner, Production Manager, at greenroom@scootyjojo.com.  Please include a cover letter explaining your experience, areas of interest, what term(s) you are interested in interning with the company, and your fit with the company.
